1- Does acupuncture hurt?
Although there is some sensation associated with any needle therapy, discomfort is usually mild and is
greatly less than what people have come to expect from hypodermic and IV needles. The most
marked sensation that most people report is a feeling of heaviness, aching or slight electricity around
the needles. This is a signal that the energy has arrived at the needle and that the point is doing its
work.
2- Do you re-use your needles?
Never. Needles are sterilized and sealed by the manufacturer and then disposed of in medical waste
containers immediately after use.
3- How many treatments will I need?
The entire purpose of the community acupuncture model is to make the necessary number of
treatments affordable. Although we won’t recommend any more treatments than we feel are
necessary, acupuncture works best when treatment can be engaged as often as it takes to address
your specific concerns and then continued as a maintenance as needed afterward. The community
acupuncture model is designed to allow clients to be able afford enough treatment to experience
how truly powerful acupuncture can be, and that doesn’t happen when treatments are too
infrequent.
4- Should I stop taking my medications while getting acupuncture?
Absolutely not. The practitioners at QCA will NEVER advise you to stop or change medication
regimens prescribed by your doctor. Acupuncture will not conflict with any medications, prescription
or otherwise. This medicine is about helping you take responsibility for your own health care, and we
encourage you to engage in clear dialogue about your needs and goals with all your providers.
5- Will insurance pay for acupuncture treatments?
Some do and some don’t, but we don’t deal with insurance companies at all. The purpose of the
sliding scale system is to make acupuncture available and affordable to our clients WITHOUT
dependence on third parties. Our contract is with you, and therefore we don’t bill or do paperwork for
insurance. We will give you a receipt for every visit that you can use to bill your company if you choose
to, but we don’t write letters or do follow-up paperwork for payment by insurance companies. That’s
what allows us to keep costs low enough to offer the sliding scale system.
6- What forms of payment do you accept?
CASH AND CHECK ONLY - In order to keep costs low, and in order to make sure we help you stay out of
debt and invest in your health.
